Subject: NexGen Nx586 and mouse recognition
Text: I have an old Win95 PC I am trying to get working again
It has an American Megatrends motherboard w/a NexGen NX586 CPU chipset
and Maxtor Hard drives. The hard drive boots fine and the keyboard
is recognized (via a PS-2/AT to mini-DIN6F adapter). I just can't
get the mouse recognized by the Windows 95 OS. The mouse plug in
the back of the tower is a DB9M socket which is plugged directly
into the COM1 slot of the motherboard via a ribbon cable.
I've tried both an old mouse with a DB9F socket and a new mouse
(mini-DIN6M plug) via a DB9F/mini-DIN6F adapter.
Both are not recognized by the OS.

Does the old style mouse on these motherboards plug into COM1 on
this type of motherboard, or somewhere else ?

I've had to run Norton Utilities 3.0 on the system to get it to boot
up at all.

Could the problem be bad, or corrupted drivers for the mouse ?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.
