And why is Pentium 4 80786 while Pentium M and Athlon 64 are 80686? | | - Exophase |If you look at the data sheets the P4 has many interesting new features which other processors do not share - like the L1 code cache and gshare. However, I do believe such class codes are not the best way to describe the capabilities of a processor - they are much too complex: An Athlon 64 "686" for example performs quite well compared to a "786" P4 and additionally has many features on-chip unknown to a P4. ~eh |
