Question about RDTSC programming |
| Text: |
Hi, I am currently creating a high resolution timer for my game engine and decided to give RDTSC a try and quickly relized I dont know of a way to test for the CPU's clock frequency. Thinking that this would be no problem to find a way I set out to find how it was done but found no documentation and then found someones post that said he hadent determained a good way to do this and was using a hack to say to produce the result. Then I found this site and I am starting to get a feeling from the posts that there may not be one definite standard way in assembly to get the frequency from the CPU but that I would have to test for it. Am I correct on this? If not can someone please point me in the right direction as to how to get a correct frequency rating of the CPU. Also am I correct in assumeing that it is possible to get the bus speed and multiplier from the CPU but this differs from CPU to CPU. Thanks in advance guys. |
